5 Thoughtful Ways To Give Back During The Holidays

It’s always important to show gratitude, but if there is any better time to give back, it’s during the holidays. With Thanksgiving around the corner, everyone should do their part in showing appreciation for what they have, but also compassion for what others don’t have. Many can agree, the feeling of giving and helping someone in need, is far better then the feeling of receiving something. Giving doesn’t always need to be monetary; it can involve your time and energy. Here are some creative ways for you to give back during the holiday season.

1. Anonymous Donations- Do Something Unexpected We now live in a world, where if you “don’t post about something, it didn’t happen”. But have you ever tried doing something anonymously or without recognition. Giving in secret is great because the recipients won’t know whom the gift came from. This also eliminates the feeling of embarrassment or feeling ashamed of needing help. Do something randomly for a co-worker that is struggling to makes ends meet, help an elderly lady carry her groceries to the car, or buy a coffee for car in back of you in the drive through line. The act of doing something unexpected feels amazing. At the end of the day, the true satisfaction in giving lies within, not online.

2. Take Care of Your Waiters- Over Tip,  Some people rely on specific sources of income to make their living. You probably have people in your life that you see regularly throughout the year such as hair stylists, mailmen, dry cleaners, local bartenders, servers, even garbage men. While some of these people expect tips and others don’t, its always important to show your appreciation, and what better time then the holidays. End the year on a positive note and take care of the people that take care of you. There’s nothing better for people in the service industry than to get a big fat tip.

3. Soup Kitchens- Most soup kitchens and shelters open their doors to many people in need each year. Carve out a few hours of your day and welcome in the homeless with a warm dinner. Here are some places where you can participate in Orange County.
